Reflections Program 2003
Winners
The Shawnee Mission Area Council is pleased to announce
this year’s Reflections Program winners. The theme “Signs of
Courage” gave students in grades pre-kindergarten to twelve the
opportunity to express themselves in one or more of the four art media,
Literature, Music Composition, Visual Arts and Photography. Thirty-five
Shawnee Mission Schools participated in the program producing 1,305
entries. Each participating school forwarded the first place winners in
each category and age group to the District/Council level for a total of
191 entries. Each age and art category was awarded a first place Award of
Excellence and three Awards of Merit. Following is the list of winners:

The first place winners have advanced to the state level
of the program. They will be honored at the Shawnee Mission School Board
to be held on Monday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
The Awards of Merit have been given to the respective unit chairs to hand
to the students.
We congratulate all the talented young artists whose
artistic interpretations raised the bar this year, and we thank them for
having the courage to participate. Also, we want to thank the Reflections
Chairs at every unit for their dedication to our children and for their
commitment to the future of the arts in our schools. We encourage all
units to consider participating next year. Thank you!
