Congratulations!  As a newly elected President, you are just beginning a PTA experience that will allow you the opportunity to develop relationships, skills and so much more.  We all work to advocate on behalf of all children, both as parents and volunteers.  National PTA’s slogan captures the essence of what PTA is all about…

every child.  one voice.

You, your fellow officers, and chairs are invited to attend the premier training event in the Shawnee Mission Schools PTA - The School of Instruction.   It will be held

Wednesday, May 4th 2005, at Shawnee Mission West High School.

There are 16 workshops covering all different areas of PTA.  The presenters are current Area Council officers and chairs with experience and training in the specific areas.  The format is informal with information, conversations, questions, and resources to assist you in planning for the upcoming year.  This instruction is meant for anyone who will be holding a position or chairing a PTA event next year.   It is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence for your position from those who have held the same PTA position in the past.  For the first time, SMAC is offering you a way to have dinner and still gather for School of Instruction.  Two Guys and a Grill catering will give you the choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken sandwich, chips and a drink which will give you a chance to grab a bite, network or visit with friends.  This year we have also added a course just for the secondary level to address issues that primarily occur at this level.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:00 PM-6:45 PM      On-Site Registration, Check-In for Registrants, Dinner

6:45 PM-7:15 PM      Install newly elected SMAC officers, Administration Address

7:15 PM                      Workshops (Workshops average between 1 and 1 ¾ hours in length.  After your workshop you are free to leave)

Each school is invited to prepare an exhibit to share.  It could include Spiritwear, banners, directories, yearbooks, your Historians scrapbook or even a power point presentation.   See more details on page 2.  Attached you will find a reservation form, a description of the workshops and more information about sharing displays.

We recommend that you and your unit register early.  However, on-site registration will be available.  Registration is $5 per participant and dinner is only an additional $5.  We hope you and your unit will take part in the information, networking, and resources that will help your unit have an exciting year for your PTA.

If you have any questions please feel free to email or call me.   Thank you for your time and your efforts in supporting the children of the Shawnee Mission School District.
