Parent Involvement Policies and the Law:
What Parents Need to Know
The No Child Left Behind Act, now a year
old, requires that each school that receives Title I funds have a written
policy that will actively involve parents in the education process of
children. This provision for parent involvement may be confusing for some,
but here to help is National PTA's new online resource, "Parent
Involvement Policies and the Law: What Parents Need to Know."
"Parent Involvement Policies and the Law" outlines the criteria
for parent involvement programs that each Title I school is required to
provide. The resource answers questions about what parents can do to help
schools put these programs in place, such as:
-
working with your school officials to
draft a comprehensive parent involvement policy;
-
scheduling a Building Successful
Partnerships presentation from National PTA to show how your PTA can
forge lasting partnerships with the school, parents, and community;
-
registering for National PTA's Parent
Involvement Schools of Excellence Certification Program to gain your
school nationwide acclaim for its parent involvement practices, or to
help your school discover which areas of your parent involvement
efforts may need to be strengthened.
