SMAC President's MessagesSummer 2004The doors of our Shawnee Mission schools will soon be
opening for the start of another school year! Thank you for not only
preparing your children for their school year but also for volunteering to
be a PTA leader. This is the time of year to let your school
community know the plans your unit has for the year and how they can be a
part of them. Your Council provides a unit liaison to each school.
Your unit’s liaison either has or will be contacting you soon to
introduce her/himself and to offer support during the school year.
Please do not hesitate to call on us at any time. SMAC hopes you
will take advantage of all training opportunities we provide. Plan
to send a representative from your unit to attend meetings and workshops.
Mark your calendars for SMAC’s Presidents’ and Principals’ Reception
on August 22 at Indian Creek Technology Center. Dr. Kaplan will
update everyone on district plans for the coming year. Presidents will soon be receiving a mailing from the
Kansas State PTA with information concerning the Fall Leadership
Conference to be held in Johnson County on September 13. Encourage
your new officers and chairs to attend this event. It is a
legitimate PTA expense and will help them start the year better prepared. The State PTA will also be sending out updated bylaws
information. Please share this with your bylaws committee members.
Units should update their bylaws once every three years. Six copies
of your updated bylaws must be submitted to the state office for approval. Fall offers a wonderful opportunity to invite your state
legislators to visit your school. Let them know about the good
things going on in public education. They will be too rushed when
the legislative session starts in January to respond to many invitations. Best wishes for a great start! Rae Ann Kobylinski |
